Study abroad programs abound at colleges and universities allowing students the opportunity to experience what they are learning. Catholic Studies in Rome is a natural fit given the nature of the various topics covered in its interdisciplinarity. History, Art, Literature, Theology, Philosophy, and the entirety of the Catholic Intellectual Tradition takes on new meaning when it is viewed in front of the works of Michelangelo, in the great architecture of cathedrals, and when students can walk on the same streets as some of the greatest creative minds in history.
This program fosters students' intellectual and spiritual formation through study and community. Catholic Studies in Rome allows students to live in community with one another at the Pontifical Irish College with a regular schedule of study, prayer, and leisure while attending classes at the Pontifical Gregorian University.
For centuries, Pontifical universities have been central to the education and formation of seminarians, through the study of philosophy and theology, with attention to the human, moral, spiritual, and pastoral dimensions of formation.
One of these institutions, the Pontifical Irish College, is located in the heart of the city on the Via dei SS. Quattro, two blocks from St. John Lateran and just down the street from the Colosseum. It is here that our Catholic Studies students and faculty will call home during the length of this program.
Students live in community, gathering for prayer and regular communal meals. Daily Mass is celebrated onsite and there will be opportunities for prayer, worship, and spiritual formation on a weekly basis. Catholic Studies as an academic discipline is not merely intellectual, but experiential and developed through dialogue. With time for leisure, exploration, and recreation, along with great food, students will have ample time to enter into dialogue with their classmates, fostering an environment of both discipleship and accompaniment.
Students will take courses at the Pontifical Gregorian University. Courses will cover
